It is carried on the body, folded into habits, kept through gestures that may mean something only to the person performing them. None of it appears important enough to catalogue. Taken together, though, these fragments begin to resemble a record: incomplete and uneven, but evidence that a life was lived.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eForgetting now happens with remarkable ease. Contemporary life prioritizes the new and quickly pushes aside what came before. Feeds refresh, stories disappear, yesterday sinks beneath today. Even our instinct to preserve has changed. We transfer, back up and safely store, and in doing so often remove things from daily life. They remain with us and slowly stop being seen.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003ePerhaps we do something similar with ourselves. A life, when retold, becomes cleaner around the edges. Certain parts survive easily; others are shortened, softened or eventually left out. What was difficult to carry at the time can become almost invisible in its re-telling.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAnd yet there are small things we do because we are afraid we might forget. A thread around the wrist, an object deliberately left in sight, a knot tied with a thought attached to it. There is something very human in the modesty of these gestures. They ask little of the world around them. Their purpose is simply to make something stay.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBut, keeping anything for long enough leaves a mark. Things are moved from one place to another, handled, repaired, rearranged, returned to. They change through contact, and so do we. Habit, pressure, repetition, care, injury, recovery all settle somewhere. A life accumulates quietly, across objects and across the body, often without announcing itself as history while it is happening.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWhat survives from that life is rarely complete. It arrives in fragments: an image, an object, a story repeated by someone else, a gesture whose origin has almost been forgotten. Some memories remain vivid while others are inherited through the people who remember them for us. Dilara Altınkepçe Arslan’s own archive moves through these uneven forms of remembering, where personal history is carried as much through what has been kept as through what can still be recalled. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHer second solo exhibition takes this condition of accumulation as its ground. Across Arslan’s practice, repetition, contact and duration give material form to things that might otherwise remain dispersed. Care leaves a trace. So does insistence. In the exhibition, this attention continues through the way things are preserved, arranged and brought into view. Intimate objects are given the seriousness usually reserved for institutional collections, allowing personal history to enter the space of the archive without becoming complete, orderly or resolved.
