Historical sources indicate that each kam, through the cumulative experiences of a lifetime, formed an association with a particular animal spirit and during ritual practice oriented their journey toward the sky or the underworld in accordance with the attributes of that spirit. The headgear and the ceremonial garments known as manyak, produced directly by each kam, serve as material embodiments of the alternative layers of reality shaped by these lived experiences. This work positions the experiential significance underlying historical mask depictions from Central Asia in relation to the behavioral and cognitive strata formed throughout the modern individual's life. Each encounter generates new attitudes, modes of self protection, and responses, which over time develop into situational points of escape surrounding the core self. The masks arranged in vertical succession within the composition function as a visual delineation of this cumulative field of experience.
