Archēnode

Until very recently, humanity could not perceive the planet it inhabited as a whole. The question "What does the Earth look like?" was answered through imagination and explained with mythological imagery. Today, satellite photography allows us to see the world as a "blue sphere." These hyper-realistic images present the Earth as a physical object stripped of meaning.

Elvan Asarkaya, however, embarks on an intuitive journey through satellite imagery. Focusing on the ancient geography of Mesopotamia, she perceives ancestral narratives in the forms emerging from topographical shapes and renders them on paper or canvas in a pointillist style.

This process reflects humanity's evolving perceptual structure alongside technology. The series developed under the title "Gaia Narratives" reconstructs humanity's relationship with nature and the memory of civilizations that lived on these lands on an abstract plane. The visual language, merged with contemporary aesthetics is an original interpretation of traditional narrative forms.

The artist incorporates different materials and technologies into this process. She creates alternative visual narratives by combining her intuitive choices with algorithmic propositions like AI (artificial intelligence). Two-dimensional narratives are animated with AI models; traditional techniques intertwine with digital tools. Through AR (augmented reality) applications, visuals are experienced both on physical surfaces and in digital environments.

Archēnode is an application project developed by Elvan Asarkaya within the scope of her art proficiency thesis titled The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Contemporary Art. In the project, AI and AR technologies take part in the process as organic components of visual narrative.

The paintings titled Refugees, Anatolia, and Nanşe featured in the exhibition are mythological figures of Mesopotamia and Anatolia. They are reconstructed with themes such as the cyclical nature of nature and humanity, the continuity of migration, the symbolic role of women, and contemporary aesthetics.

Each figure on the canvases gains movement through AI. These fragmented actions are modeled on platforms like Algebran and fal.ai and combined through fictional integration. This gives the figures their own unique language of existence.

Through the Artivive platform, digital layers become visible with AR technology. Through mobile devices or tablets in the exhibition space, the paintings establish a new perceptual depth and sensory and intellectual interaction with the viewer through this new dimension they have acquired.

This approach makes the viewer an active participant in the artist's search for meaning, while technology transforms from being objective into a living space that produces new meaning.

İnsanlık, çok yakın zamanlara kadar yaşadığı gezegeni bir bütün olarak göremiyordu. "Dünya neye benzer?" sorusu hayal gücüyle yanıtlanıyor, mitolojik imgelerle açıklanıyordu. Bugün ise uydu fotoğrafları sayesinde dünyayı "mavi bir küre" olarak görüyoruz. Bu hiper-gerçekçi imgeler, dünyayı anlamdan arınmış, yalnızca fiziksel bir nesne olarak sunuyor.

Elvan Asarkaya ise uydu görüntülerinde sezgisel bir yolculuk yapar. Kadim coğrafya Mezopotamya'ya odaklanarak, topografik şekillerde beliren formlarda ataların hikâyelerini görür ve kâğıt ya da tuvale noktalama tekniğiyle resmeder.

Bu süreç, insanın teknolojiyle birlikte evrilen algı yapısının bir göstergesidir. "Gaia Anlatıları" başlığıyla gelişen seri, insanın doğayla ilişkisini ve bu topraklarda yaşamış uygarlıkların belleğini soyut bir düzlemde yeniden kurgular. Çağdaş estetikle birleşen görsel dil, geleneksel anlatım biçimlerinin özgün bir yorumudur.

Sanatçı bu sürece farklı malzeme ve teknolojileri dahil eder. AI (yapay zekâ) gibi algoritmik önermelerle sezgisel seçimlerini birleştirerek alternatif görsel anlatımlar oluşturur. İki boyutlu anlatım AI modelleri ile canlandırılır; geleneksel tekniklerle dijital araçlar iç içe geçer. AR (artırılmış gerçeklik) uygulamalarıyla görseller hem fiziksel yüzeylerde hem dijital ortamda deneyimlenir. 

Archēnode Elvan Asarkaya’nın Çağdaş Sanatta Yapay Zekânın Rolü başlıklı sanatta yeterlik tezi kapsamında geliştirdiği uygulama projesidir. Projede, AI ve AR teknolojileri görsel anlatının organik bileşenleri olarak süreçte yer alır. 

Sergide yer alan Mülteciler,  Anadolu ve Nanşe adlı resimler, Mezopotamya ve Anadolu'nun mitolojik figürleridir. Doğanın ve insanın döngüselliği, göçün sürekliliği, kadının simgesel rolü ve bugünün beğenisi gibi temalarla yeniden kurgulanır.

Tuvallerdeki her bir figür, AI aracılığıyla hareket kazanır. Bu parçalı eylemler Algebran ve fal.ai gibi platformlarda modellenir ve kurgusal entegrasyonla birleştirilir. Figürlere kendine özgü bir varoluş dili kazandırır.

Artivive platformu aracılığıyla dijital katmanlar, AR teknolojisiyle görünür hale gelir. Mobil cihazlar veya sergi alanındaki tabletler aracılığıyla resimler, kazandıkları bu yeni boyutla, izleyiciyle yeni bir algısal derinlik, duyusal ve entelektüel bir etkileşim kurar. 

Bu yaklaşım, izleyiciyi sanatçının anlam arayışında aktif bir katılımcı hâline getirirken,  teknoloji, nesnel olmaktan çıkarak yeniden anlam üreten canlı bir alana dönüşür.
